What a contact is
One person per email address in your workspace, why the email is the identity, and how contacts and leads are the same people seen from two places.
A contact is one person your workspace knows about. Everyone who filled a form on your site, booked a call, received a campaign email, was reported by your backend, was added by hand, or was imported from a CSV appears in Contacts.
Contact or lead
Section titled “Contact or lead”They are the same person, named for where you are standing.
- Workspace wide, on the Contacts page, the person is a contact.
- Inside a campaign, on the Recipients tab, the same person is a lead, because there they are a lead for that campaign.
One contact can be a lead in several campaigns at once.
The email is the identity
Section titled “The email is the identity”A contact is identified by its email address, lowercased, within one workspace. Every way a person can reach LinkiFunnels looks up that address first and adds to the contact it finds instead of creating a second one.
This is why a person who downloads your playbook in August, books a call in September, and is then invoiced by your backend is one contact with three things on their page, not three rows.
The same address in two different workspaces is two unrelated contacts. Workspaces never share contacts.
Names are never overwritten
Section titled “Names are never overwritten”Whatever fills a name in first keeps it. If your form captures “Nina Petrov” and she later types “Nina” into a booking form, the contact stays Nina Petrov. You can always change a name yourself by editing the contact.
Contacts from your app’s own user ids
Section titled “Contacts from your app’s own user ids”If you report conversions with the API or the LinkiFunnels pixel you can send a customer.external_id, your own stable id for that person. LinkiFunnels treats it as a label on the contact:
- The first time an id arrives with an email, the contact adopts it.
- If a different id later arrives for the same email, it replaces the old one and the change is recorded in the contact’s activity.
- A conversion carrying only an id and no email creates a contact with no email address. It shows the id in place of the email. As soon as an email arrives for that id, the two become one contact.
What a contact carries
Section titled “What a contact carries”Nothing on a contact is typed in by you except the name, the email, and your tags. Everything else is assembled from what already happened: the click that produced the first lead, the campaigns they touched, the emails they were sent and opened, the calls they booked, the sales recorded against them.
That means a contact is never out of date, and deleting one never changes your reporting. See Add, edit or delete a contact.
