Handle unsubscribes and bounces
What happens when a recipient opts out, an address bounces, or someone marks your email as spam.
Unsubscribes
Section titled “Unsubscribes”Every campaign email ends with “If you no longer wish to receive these emails, unsubscribe here”, and carries the header that lets Gmail and Apple Mail show their own unsubscribe button. Either way, the recipient lands on a confirmation page and is marked unsubscribed for the whole workspace. They receive no further campaign emails from any campaign, and their sequence stops where it is.
Unsubscribes show up per email and in the Recipients card, and as a pill next to the person’s name in Contacts.
You can also unsubscribe someone yourself, for when they ask you directly instead of using the link. Open their contact page, then Unsubscribe from emails in the ··· menu. It suppresses the address for the whole workspace and stops their sequences, exactly as their own click would.
Bounces and complaints
Section titled “Bounces and complaints”When an address bounces permanently, or the recipient reports the email as spam, the address is suppressed for the workspace. Suppressed addresses are skipped silently by every sequence.
| Reason | Set when |
|---|---|
| Unsubscribed | The recipient used the unsubscribe link or their mail client’s button |
| Bounced | The receiving server rejected the address permanently |
| Complained | The recipient reported the email as spam |
Suppression belongs to the address rather than the person, so it survives everything else. Deleting a contact does not clear it, and correcting the email on a contact carries it across to the new address.
