How leads are captured

The three ways a lead reaches LinkiFunnels, what a lead is, and how it stays connected to the click and the post.

3 minute read

A lead is a person with an email address who arrived through one of your tracked links and did something on your site: submitted a form, finished a sign up flow, or was sent to LinkiFunnels by your backend.

When a tracked link redirects, it sets a click id in a first-party cookie named lf_cid and appends the same id to your destination URL as ?lf_cid=.... Whatever captures the lead sends that id back with the email. LinkiFunnels resolves it to the click, the link, the post, and the campaign. That is why leads appear on the post that caused them and not just in a list.

Way Use it when Page
LinkiFunnels pixel Your site has forms or a sign up flow and you can add one script tag Track conversions in the browser
API The conversion happens on your server, for example a completed checkout or a signed contract, or you want to record sales with a value Record a conversion via the API
Booking page You want the lead to book a call instead of filling a form Set up your booking page

You can combine them. A common setup is the pixel for the lead and the API for the sale that follows.

Behind a lead is a contact, matched by email address within the workspace. Two leads with the same email are the same contact. Names are filled in when they arrive and never overwritten.

Workspace wide that person is a contact, with their own page carrying every campaign, call and email. Inside a campaign they are a lead. See What a contact is.

  • The lead shows in the link’s and post’s analytics and in the campaign funnel.
  • If the campaign has a live email sequence, the lead is enrolled as a recipient and receives the first email after its delay. See Build an email sequence.
  • Sales recorded later against the same click show up as revenue on the same link.
